❌ Absolute Nightmare. Zero Integrity & Deceptive Practices.
Do not trust this company with your home. I hired Allstar Construction of Fargo to handle a leaking roof on a home I recently purchased. A contractor recommended them based on good online reviews, but my experience was a masterclass in extreme unprofessionalism, incompetence, and borderline bait-and-switch tactics.
I signed a contract based on their own expert assessment, which claimed I needed a new roof, better ventilation (soffits), decking replacement, and new gutters. I paid a ~$16,000 deposit (50%) and waited. That is when the nightmare began.
Weeks passed with zero scheduling. I was told Mid to Late September. My sales rep admitted that the Project Manager, Kaiden (who happens to be the owner’s son), was "really hard to get ahold of." For nearly a month, I was completely ignored. Calls to the front office resulted in endless broken promises of "he will call you back today." He never did. With winter looming and my roof still actively leaking, I screamed and the owner finally called me.
Shockingly, he stated they could not warranty the project the way it was written. Excuse me? Your own estimators wrote the contract for the roof, soffits, decking, and gutters, took my $16,000, and now you can't honor it?
They promised an answer the next afternoon. Instead of a phone call, I caught someone via my security cameras climbing onto my roof unannounced. Had I not seen the notification and disabled my alarm, the siren could have startled him into a dangerous fall. Zero communication, zero respect for property.
I finally received an email from the owner filled with excuses at 6PM. He claimed my roof trusses might have structural issues (untrue), stated they wouldn't fix the ventilation (soffits) as agreed, refused to fix the siding (the primary reason the roof was leaking!), and threatened to hike up the price after an attic inspection because now I had framing issues. To top it off, they wanted to reuse old, bent flashing that already had nail holes in it. Who reuses compromised flashing on a brand-new roof?
The punchline: I ended up climbing the roof myself. With zero roofing experience, I found the leak immediately. It was missing flashing. Allstar’s "experts" completely missed it on the 3 times they climbed the roof. I fixed the leak myself.
I have since brought out two highly reputable, independent contractors. Both said an inspection in the attic wasn't necessary but would do it on my request and confirmed the structure is 100% perfectly fine, proving Allstar was trying to scare me into a fraudulent price hike so they could get me to go away or sucker me for more money. Both contractors openly laughed at the idea of reusing old flashing, calling it incredibly cheap and unprofessional. They also confirmed Allstar overcomplicated everything just to upsell me or get me to go away.
The only reason they get 1 star instead of 0 is because I successfully got my $16,000 deposit back. Kaiden is clearly protected by nepotism and should be nowhere near project management. They'll likely blame the sales guy instead. I will be taking this up directly with the state licensing departments and their suppliers. Save yourself the stress, money, and disrespect. Hiring likely anyone else is a good idea. I added pictures of my work. As you can see, not too complicated.
